Mama Mokgohloa’s passing is a profound loss to the judiciary, the legal profession and South African society as a whole.

Before her elevation to the Supreme Court of Appeal in June 2019, Mama Mokgohloa served as a judge of the High Court of South Africa from November 2008 to May 2019. Her years of service reflected a deep commitment to justice, the rule of law and the constitutional values upon which our democracy is founded.

At a time when our country continues to grapple with complex social and political challenges, the loss of women and men who dedicated their lives to strengthening our institutions is deeply felt. Mama Mokgohoa’s life reminds us of the importance of principled leadership, public service and the courage to uphold justice.

We extend our sincere condolences to her family and loved ones, as well as to her colleagues in the judiciary and the broader legal fraternity.
