The United Progressive People Alliance (U.P.P.A.) will be referring the case of a family in Atteridgeville, Tshwane, to the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) following a sinkhole incident on 4 March 2026 that damaged the family’s boundary wall and raised serious concerns about the integrity and safety of its yard and home.

Nearly eight months after the incident, the family reportedly continues to live in fear, with no satisfactory resolution despite visits by various politicians and professionals who allegedly made promises of assistance.

Tomorrow, Monday 26 October 2026 U.P.P.A. will be submitting a letter to the SAHRV calling for urgent intervention, an independent professional assessment of the property’s safety, accountability from the relevant authorities and a clear, time-bound plan to address the situation.

The party believes that no family should be left in prolonged uncertainty when the safety of its home is in question.

Through this referral, U.P.P.A. seeks to ensure that the family’s concerns are properly investigated, that the responsible institutions account for their response, and that appropriate steps are taken to protect the household.
